True Gum
True Gum, the world’s first certified palm oil free chewing gum, bringing a plastic free, vegan and eco-friendly option to our shelves since 2018. Unlike other gum it’s free from sugar, aspartame and artificial flavours, making it better for both you and our planet.
The story of True Gum started in a small Copenhagen apartment in 2017, when four university friends socialised and enjoyed a healthy organic dinner together. As a way of freshening their taste buds following the meal, regular gum was offered around the table, which prompted the question ‘what actually is chewing gum?’….
Over the coming days, just how unfriendly regular gum is became apparent, with the discovery of some of the ingredients involved; made with a synthetic petroleum-derived rubber base, which contains the same plastic ingredients also found in plastic bottles, glue and car tyres.
With the group of friends questioning their behaviour after enjoying such a natural meal, their mission was to change chewing gum. It took more than two years of experimenting in their home kitchen, before they finally managed to develop a plastic free alternative.
Today, True Gum is produced in the world’s smallest chewing gum factory in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a socially responsible start-up, the chewing gum is made with sap from gum trees that grow in the Central-American jungle. The passionate team of gum entrepreneurs work tirelessly on producing and perfecting a gum that not only tastes great but has also sparked a real chewing gum revolution that is sweeping both supermarket aisles and countries, pioneering this new movement.
Together with local farmer cooperatives, they give the native chicleros a reason to preserve the trees of the rainforest, actively supporting the local communities.
True Gum have donated money to forest restoration projects (via NGO Stand For Trees) and plastic-change initiatives (via NGO Plastic Change), while organizing our own independent plastic cleanups across the largest Danish cities.
Since launch True Gum have won multiple awards including
- The FLIP-Award 2020 for ‘flipping the perspective on established thinking through innovative action’. They donated their prize money to forward fully to NGO Plastic Change.
